The city council voted 6-1 Tuesday night to approve a sweeping redevelopment plan for the downtown corridor, clearing the way for $42 million in new construction along Main Street.
Council members said the project would bring an estimated 200 permanent jobs to the area and revitalize a district that has seen declining foot traffic since 2019.
Mayor Sandra Okafor called the vote a turning point. “This is the investment our downtown has needed for a decade,” she said.
